ExtraFilms is casting for Child 44, Tom’s next film…with Gary Oldman, Noomi Rapace and Joel Kinnaman. Just writing that cast list gave me a psychic boner. :) Anyway, they need a lot of children for the orphanage and school scenes. And according to the casting notice, filming starts on JUNE 10.

If you haven’t read the book yet, it’s riveting. Even if you don’t like serial killer stories (I’m not a big fan), Child 44 is a stellar read, dripping with atmosphere, suspense and paranoia on every page. If you enjoy writers like John le Carré, you will love this.

Daniel Espinosa is directing the film version, with a script adapted by Richard Price from Tom Rob Smith’s novel. Tom will play Leo Demidov, an officer in the Soviet military police who, while conducting a rogue investigation of a series of child murders, becomes the target of state suspicion himself.

Noomi Rapace is his complex, beautiful wife (a fascinating character and my favorite in the book), while Joel Kinnaman is a dark, murderous colleague (Vasili). Gary Oldman will play the head of police who is tracking both the child murderer and Tom’s character.

This has every ingredient to become a fantastic film. Can’t wait to see what brilliance Tom gives us in his role as compromised war hero Demidov.

The love affair continues. It’s wonderful to be able to make “Gary Oldman” the tag next to Tom Hardy. :) Mr. Oldman is officially signing on to Child 44.

Gary Oldman is signing on to join Tom Hardy in Child 44, a 1950s Soviet-era thriller being produced by Ridley Scott and Michael Schaefer via the Scott Free banner. Lionsgate is distributing.

Daniel Espinosa is directing the thriller, which is set during the 1950s and follows a member of the Soviet military police (Hardy) who, while investigating a series of child murders, finds himself the target of his own government’s suspicions.

In what should prove to be a meaty role, Oldman will play the head of police who is acting on those suspicions.

Noomi Rapace is playing Hardy’s chameleon-like wife while Joel Kinnaman is playing an ambitious and murderous co-worker.

Richard Price wrote the script adapting the Tom Rob Smith novel.

Worldview Entertainment will co-finance and executive produce the film with Summit Entertainment. Elishia Holmes is exec producing as is Douglas Urbanski. A June 10 production start is being eyed. (HollywoodReporter)
